Baptism

Today we welcome in baptism Rowen Paige Grimshaw.

Church Attendance

During October the Church nationally counts the numbers of people who attend mass. In November we will remember the twenty five parishioners who have died this year and whom we miss each Sunday and today we welcome the “new” parishioners who have joined us in this time... there are still large numbers of “resting” parishioners whom we miss... any you could persuade to return will be more than welcome!

Hedges

Les Walsh has completed the annual cut of all the hedges in the grounds. It has been a massive task – even the hawthorne hedge marking the entrance to the “new” graveyard has been tamed! Our thanks to Les and the Grounds Team who have worked so hard to complete this mammoth task. Thank you all, very much.

Religious Inspection

Fr. Melly and his team on Tuesday inspected the religious teaching and the practice of the Faith in the life of the School. They found it “outstanding”. It was a really lovely day – the children were “outstanding” and a credit to the work of their teachers who so wonderfully present the joy of the Gospel in our School. I asked Mrs. Wroblewski to summon the ice cream van as a gift from us so that all the children could celebrate the occasion. The Faith is taught, but first and foremost it is lived and in that way caught.

Open Evening – 14 October (6.00pm – 8.00pm)

You are all warmly invited to come to look around the school at the Open Evening next week. Invitation cards are available in the porch... you won’t recognise the building from what you remember in ‘your day’... it has been much enhanced!

Collection

Thank you for last week’s collection of £978.

CAFOD

The harvest CAFOD collection will be taken today. If you wish any of it to go to Water Aid please mark your donation as “Water”.

Cheques

Our Bank (like all others I suspect) is tightening up on the receipt of cheques... they will only accept cheques made payable to St. Gregory’s Parish.... so, cheques made payable to, for example, various collections or other activities (churchyard etc.) – still less any made payable to M. McKenna!!! – will not be accepted!! Any cheques made payable to CAFOD are sent direct to them and do not go through our account.

Drains

The drains from the church feed into a soak-away and have to be re-directed to the main drainage system. This will require the paving in front of the church to be disturbed, so we will take this opportunity to have the flags there re-laid as they have, in parts, become broken and dangerous. The work should start within the next few weeks.... during it the toilet at the back of the church will not be available for use. I will let you know dates as soon as we know them.

Stoptober – Stop Smoking in October

Emily Robson writes to remind us of this Public Health campaign. There is local support in Chorley – contact the team on 01772 644474, or call into Chorley Health Centre Tuesday evening between 5.00pm – 7.00pm.
