Thank you for last week’s offertory collection of £964, including some envelopes returned from other churches.
Synod on the Family
The synod enters its final week today. Please pray that the Holy Spirit will inspire the deliberations of the bishops as they reflect on the issues facing family life today.
Welcome
Today we welcome Alan Cunliffe into our parish community. Alan is no stranger to the church... he and Yvonne have been married for more than forty years bringing up their three children in the practice of the Faith... and now he has decided to join them and the grandchildren.
Alan, the Christian community here welcomes you with great joy, and wishes you and your family every blessing. Olivia, Alan’s granddaughter who is a chorister at Blackburn Cathedral, will sing the Pange Lingua after Communion as a prayer of thanksgiving.
Lourdes Pilgrimage
There is a lovely photograph on the notice board of our younger parishioners who joined the Lourdes pilgrimage last summer. Kathy Charnock, one of the diocesan organisers, writes: - “This year 45 young people from across Lancashire made the journey to Lourdes – over 1000 miles and 25 hours each way by coach.... to serve the sick and elderly. The young people worked long hours, after starting their day at 6.30am and finishing at 10.30pm. During this time they worked with sick, frail and elderly people providing care, companionship, and a means of getting about (by pushing wheelchairs).
The young people came back deeply affected by the experience, learning so much about themselves and their faith.... we have no doubt the experience of Lourdes will remain with them.... thank you all for your financial support which enabled the young people to make this pilgrimage.”
Bookings for next year’s pilgrimage (21th – 29th July) open on 9th November (at 9.00am!). To book a place, pull off an application form from www.animateyouth.org and send it straight back – you will need to have it signed by me and send the deposit with the form, so please come up to see me and the parish will find the deposit for you. But you have to move quickly as the places on the Lancs Coach go very quickly!
